Wind projects – international
What are the goals of the EWS Consulting internationally?
The EWS Consulting has developed its know-how in Austria but, in the mean time, now has projects in Europe and soon even across the ocean. The EWS Consulting adheres to its high standards of quality at home as well as outside its borders. These high standards of quality give our customers confidence in our work.
Austria
Tauernwind Farm Oberzeiring
The Tauernwind Farm Oberzeiring was the highest wind farm in Europe at the time of installation (1,850 meters). The extreme weather conditions (ice, snow, strong winds) and the sensible alpine flora and fauna presented a great challenge to the planners. New transport methods were created which made it possible to overcome the long distances.
- EU project for researching wind energy in alpine regions
- Installation in just six and a half months
- Great precaution was taken to protect nature - e.g. the upper layer of grass was carefully dug out and, after installation, was set back in place.
- Access road: 11.8 km long, 900 meters difference in altitude
- Electrical connection: Electrical lines are 20.86 km long and crossed many streams and streets
- Development of a special transportation concept
- Transport of the rotor blades by helicopter
Wind Farm Sternwald
Right from the beginning, it has been a basic principal of the EWS Consulting to make sure that there is suitable distance from wind turbines to nearby dwellings. This means that, in a landscape scattered with houses, the only possible wind turbine sites are on exposed summits or in forests free of dwellings. Wind farm Sternwald was the first wind farm to be built in a forest.
- Transport concept to keep disturbance to the forest at a minimum
- Development of a special installation concept for better protection of the forest
- Individual installation of rotor blades to prevent additional forest clearance
- The rotor blades were assembled individually in 105 meters height above the tops of the trees.
Wind Farm Steinberg-Prinzendorf II
Austrian wind experts estimate that the wind energy potential in Austria amounts to three times as much as the total installed capacity of all wind turbines in 2008 (approximately 1000 MW). The utilization of this potential could be possible with just doubling the number of wind turbines. The magic word is "repowering". - In Steinberg-Prinzendorf this method was used for the first time in Austria to replace an earlier generation of wind turbines with 2 MW state-of-the-art turbines.
- „Green Meadow" - Wind turbines were completely taken down for the first time in Austria in the course of enlargement of a wind farm.
- The foundations were completely removed and disposed.
- An environmental impact assessment was required for the enlargement of wind farm Steinberg-Prinzendorf I.
Wind Farm Höflein
Höflein ist the first large wind farm in Austria with the new clean energy tariff. In recent years, wind energy development had been limited to only single wind turbines! Wind Farm Höflein was approved in 2009 and has been under construction since fall 2010. The wind farm is located in one of the best wind regions in Austia, and will produce 33 million kWh annually.
- Environmental impact study completed in 2009 by EWS
- First "modernized" V90 in Austria with new nacelle and external cooling system
- Deep foundation with firm ground conditions
- Power feeds into the new tranformer substation Höflein (EVN)
Parndorfer Platte/ Construction Status June 2012
On the Parndorfer Platte in Burgenland, Austria, the wind farms Dreijoch Mönchhof, Heidäcker Mönchhof, Puszta Halbturn, Neuriss Halbturn, Heide Halbturn, Albrechtsfeld, Andau, Halbturn Nord, Halbturn Ost and Nickelsdorf are under construction. The construction management of these projects is a challenge for the EWS team because this is the first time in Austria that so many wind turbines are being built simultaneously. It may also remain a unique experience. 148 wind turbines will be installed in the next few years in this area.
-
When the projects are completed, Burgenland will have reached its energy target of "100% wind power".
-
At peak times, a total of up to 200 workers ("green jobs") are occupied simultaneously with the erection of the wind turbines. Several companies are working at the same time. Safety is very important. The EWS building site coordinators pay close attention to the implementation of the safety and health plan.
-
A total of about 93,000 cubic meters of concrete and 10,000 tons of reinforcing steel will be used for the foundations of the 110 wind turbines.
-
A total of about 345 km of cable will be installed for the wind farms. This is almost exactly the distance from Salzburg to Eisenstadt. It is the aim of the EWS, through detailed planning, to minimize energy losses in the wind farm grid.
-
The logistics must be right - a particular challenge is the traffic plan. That was already an important issue for the EWS team when it was preparing the EIA paperwork.
-
The special fields of the EWS are in demand:
wind energy technology, measurement technology (LIDAR), electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, meteorology, auditing, landscape planning, regional planning, visualization, geo-informatics, biology, ecology, biotechnology and environmental technology, cultural technique, water management, geology, mathematics, infrastructural economics, architecture, planning and coordination of construction, civil engineering and project management.
