Species protection study (saP)

Artenschutzrechtlichepruefung gross

In order to plan and to get approval for wind energy projects in Germany, it is necessary, among other things, to clarify whether and to what extent access prohibitions have been met on strictly protected wild species. The Federal Nature Conservation Act must be complied with. A special species protection study (saP) must be performed. A survey of the current environmental conditions and the effect the wind turbines will have on the environment along with measures to fulfil the legal requirements are all part of the saP.

The EWS Consulting Experts...

  • check relevant species protection factors at the planned site
  • comprise a list of existing species at the planned site, when necessary by performing ornithological, bat and other field investigations
  • describe construction, equipment and operation-related effects
  • check existing species protection prohibitions according to conservation laws
  • check, if necessary, conditions which could result in exceptions
  • recommend measures, if necessary
  • prepare a report for the saP according to the requirements of the State Office of Environment
