LiDAR and BAT research project completed


Research increases the quality of our services.

Our second research project on LiDAR & BAT measurement technology has recently been completed. We can now offer even better developed LiDAR wind measurements which our exactly matched to fit forest sites. New findings will also be incorporated into our expert reports about bats. Our service portfolio is growing and being improved!

Ing. Wolfgang Hirner from the OÖ Energiesparverband, the energy agency of Upper Austria, who accompanied the project, was able to convince himself that the project was carried out correctly. Our research group explained to him the most important results.

LiDAR measurement technology

In the framework of the research project, we found that LiDAR measurement technology is being constantly improved. The latest version of Windcube B2 with 5 measuring beams and an FCR-module is suitable for the first time as a stand-alone wind measurement for wooded, complex sites with wind approaching at an angle. Wind conditions up to 200 metres above ground can be precisely measured and deliver a valid basis for energy yield and site suitability reports.


On the basis of the research project it was possible to gain insights on the range of species and about the activity of bats at higher altitudes and to compare these with data collected at ground level. This enables us to carry out our investigations on bat fauna realistically. In addition, thanks to the meteorological equipment installed at the same time, essential knowledge about the interplay between bat activity and weather could be won.
