EWS supports business appeal for a crisis-proof energy future.

In an open letter, WWF Austria and GLOBAL 2000 call on the Austrian federal government to implement a climate-friendly action plan with medium- and long-term structural reforms. 160 Austrian companies with a turnover of € 22.12 billion and 87,400 employees are behind the appeal.

Here are the five most important demands:

  1.     Make our business location energy-efficient and crisis-proof.
  2.     Adopt a binding phase-out path from fossil energies.
  3.     Pass an ambitious climate protection law.
  4.     Expand renewable energies in an environmentally compatible way.
  5.     Use public funds effectively and redirect them.

Politics must create framework conditions

It is important for companies to have a well-planned and coordinated concept with predictable action plans. Because we too are convinced that, beyond immediate measures, clear and determined longer-term structural reforms and climate protection measures are needed to counteract the climate crisis, we support the business community's appeal.

"We have been working exclusively on renewable energy projects for over 28 years and know only too well the conservative and hesitant political commitments to the expansion of non-fossil energy production. In times like these with energy supply insecurity and volatile electricity prices, however, even the population has long since ceased to understand why politicians are still putting the brakes on," says Joachim Payr GS of EWS.
