The first EWS Sonnenfeld® for Germany
As general contractor, EWS EPC GmbH is planning, supplying and installing the turnkey EWS Sonnenfeld Potsdam agrivoltaic system with a cultivation width of 6 metres, a 2-metre flowering strip and north-south aligned and tracked sun catchers.
"Our references, product design and practical experience at the EWS Sonnenfeld Bruck/Leitha attracted the attention of the Max Planck Institute in Potsdam. And that's a great thing for an Austrian company!" enthuses Ernst Steiner, Managing Director of EWS EPC GmbH.
Realised EWS Sonnenfelder® as a reference
The EWS Group began developing the EWS Sonnenfeld® back in 2020. The motivation behind this was to utilise the huge solar power potential for power generation and agriculture in an environmentally friendly way and with maximum space efficiency. In 2022, the first Agri-PV research and pilot plant in Austria was realised in Bruck an der Leitha, Lower Austria with project partner Energiepark Bruck and supported by the Climate and Energy Fund. The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna was won as a partner for scientific support.
Our first commercial EWS Sonnenfeld Pellendorf in Lower Austria has been in operation since 2023. Further EWS Sonnenfelder® are currently in the approval process in several Austrian federal states.
"We don't just talk about the energy transition, we realise concrete renewable energy projects!" says Ernst Steiner. "Thanks to our development lead of several years in the field of agrivoltaics and the already implemented and tested EWS Sonnenfelder®, we show that with good planning and an experienced team, the dual utilisation of green and arable land for simultaneous electricity and food production works. Both practically, in terms of agricultural utilisation, and economically successful in solar power generation."
