Wind farm expansion 2022

On September 2, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the sixth wind turbine took place. The most powerful wind turbine in Upper Austria will generate a quarter more electricity than the wind farm's existing turbines, namely more than 8 million kWh annually.

Installed capacity: 3,45/3,6 MW, electricity for approx. 2,500 households
Commissioning: Autumn 2022

Special features

  • The six wind turbines are (at least) 1,650 meters away from the nearest residential area, thus eliminating adverse effects due to noise and shadow flicker.
  • Annual energy production: 40 millions kWh, electricity for almost 12,200 households (this is about 1/3 of the households in the district of Braunau)
  • The wind farm is 75,2 % owned by the municipality, 14,7 % by Energie AG and 10,1 % by Energiewerkstatt GmbH
  • Service life: 20 years, payback period: 12 - 13 years
  • New services were developed and jobs created in connection with the wind farm
  • The planning and construction costs incurred by the municipality of Munderfing for the 6th WTG are supported by CO2 compensation payments from Habegger customers.
  • For 2/3 of the Upper Austrians, wind energy is one of the most popular forms of energy generation in Austria, followed by all other renewable energies
  • "Grab it instead of grumble" is the motto of the people of Munderfing: The OK for the wind farm came from ALL political groups represented in Munderfing

Statements

Martin Voggenberger, Mayor of Munderfing, ÖVP: "Munderfing is the first municipality in Austria to operate its own wind farm. This is the largest citizen participation model. We are thus setting new standards and demonstrating what modern location policy means."

Heinz Stockinger, Platform against Nuclear Hazards: "Wind turbines are relatively easy to dismantle. They don't produce dangerous millennium waste like nuclear power plants."
