ORF Summer Radio Upper Austria broadcast from the wind farm community of Munderfing.

More than 300 people took advantage of the varied programme on offer as part of this year's Radio Oberösterreich summer tour, which stopped off in Munderfing on 11 August: free ice cream, an exhibition on e-mobility, lots of music and a relaxed holiday mood, as well as a meeting of vintage tractors on the village square, including a trip to the wind farm, made for an entertaining and varied programme.

At eye level with the wind turbine

The opportunity to be brought to eye level with the wind turbine by crane does not come along every day, and so the influx of visitors was enormous.

A shuttle bus took us through the idyllic forest up to the Munderfing wind farm to the beautifully designed rest area with sun loungers and a magnificent view of the wind farm at wind turbine 2. Signposted cycling and hiking trails also pass by here, which are popular for sports and leisure activities throughout the year.

Near the rest area is also the Generation Forest, where a tree is planted every year for the newborn Munderfinger:innen. A special place in the middle of the wind farm, which once again emphasises the proud climate protection pioneering role of the community in the sense of the next generations and shows the identification of the Munderfinger population with their wind turbines.

The enthusiasm of Munderfing's mayor and wind farm manager Martin Voggenberger comes from the heart when he says: "It is always nice that we can present ourselves as a wind farm community at events. The Munderfing wind farm is not only a success story, but also a flagship for our community."

The popularity of the community was also evident at the opening ceremony of the sixth wind turbine in autumn 2022.

Here are a few special features of the Munderfing wind farm:

  •     The six wind turbines are (at least) 1,650 metres away from the nearest residential area, thus eliminating adverse effects due to noise and shadow flicker.
  •     Annual energy production: 40 million kWh - electricity for almost 12,200 households (that is approx. 1/3 of the households in the district of Braunau)
  •     The wind farm is 75.2 % owned by the municipality, 14.7 % by Energie AG and 10.1 % by Energiewerkstatt GmbH
  •     Service life: 20 years, payback period: 12 - 13 years
  •     In connection with the Munderfing wind farm, new services were developed and jobs created
  •     The planning and construction costs incurred by the municipality of Munderfing for the 6th WT of the Munderfing wind farm are supported by CO2 compensation payments from Habegger customers.
  •     For 2/3 of Upper Austrians, wind energy is one of the most popular forms of energy generation in Austria, followed by all other renewable energies.
  •     The motto of the people of Munderfing is "get involved instead of grumbling": the OK for the wind farm came from ALL the political groups represented in Munderfing.
